Why update your Customer Information?

Keeping your personal information current helps us protect your accounts, communicate important updates, and continue providing you with the secure, personalised service you expect.
As part of our ongoing commitment to regulatory compliance and the fight against financial crime, we periodically ask customers to review and update their personal information and supporting documents. This process enables us to meet Know Your Customer (KYC) and Anti-Money Laundering (AML) requirements while ensuring we have the information needed to serve you efficiently.
How to update your Customer Information?
Updating your information is simple and our team is here to support you every step of the way. Documents can be submitted via the following channels:

Document Requirements
Access the list of required documents based on
your customer classification.
Individual
- Valid photo identification: National Identification Card; Passport (mandatory for non-nationals and non-residents); or Driver’s Permit.
- Proof of address: A financial statement, cable or utility bill issued within the last six months (mobile bills are not accepted). If the utility bill is not in the customer’s name, provide a signed Address Verification Letter from the bill holder confirming residence at the address, together with a copy of the bill holder’s valid photo ID.
- Proof of income: Most recent payslip issued within the last month; or a job letter issued within the last three months stating payment frequency and compensation details, including salary, allowances and incentives.
- If self-employed: Financials or management accounts.
- If retired or receiving pension, disability or public assistance: Pension/benefit letter or notice showing payment details and frequency; or a local Government or National Insurance Board cheque stub showing payment details and frequency.
Sole Trader
Registration & Business Details
- Statement of Change (if applicable)
- Valid identification the business owner:
- National ID Card; or
- Passport (mandatory for non-nationals and non-residents); or
- Driver’s Permit / License
- Proof of address for the business owner (issued within the last six (6) months):
- Utility bill / cable bill (excluding mobile). If the bill is not in the owner’s name, please provide:
- Signed Address Verification Letter, and
- Copy of ID for the relevant bill holder
- OR a statement from another financial institution (bank, credit union, insurance company) showing full residential address
- Utility bill / cable bill (excluding mobile). If the bill is not in the owner’s name, please provide:
- Evidence of trading address (if different from registered address)

Frequently Asked Questions
Why do I need to update my information?
Financial institutions are required to keep customer records accurate and up to date. This helps us protect your account and continue providing banking services to you.
Is updating my information mandatory?
Yes. Customers who are contacted are required to provide the requested information and supporting documents.
How often will I be asked to update my records?
The update is generally required periodically. We will contact you by letter, email or another approved Bank communication channel when an update is due.
How do I know the request is genuine?
If you are unsure, please contact the Bank using the official contact details or email on your letter or visit any First Citizens branch. Never share passwords, PINs, one-time codes or full card details with anyone.
What happens if I do not provide the requested information?
If the information is not provided by the stated deadline, restrictions may be applied to your account and certain services may be suspended.
What documents will I need?
The documents required depend on your customer type. In general, individuals may be asked for valid photo identification, proof of address and proof of income. Businesses and organisations may also be asked for registration documents and financial information.
Which forms of identification are accepted?
A valid National Identification Card or Passport may be used. A Driver’s Permit must be accompanied by a Birth Certificate. Passports are required for non-nationals and non-residents.
What can I use as proof of address?
Provide a document issued within the last six months, such as a utility bill, bank statement, telecommunications bill or official correspondence from a Government agency. If the document is not in your name, additional supporting documents may be required.
What if the utility bill is not in my name?
Please provide a signed Address Verification Letter from the bill holder confirming that you live at the address, together with a copy of the bill holder’s valid photo identification. If you are renting, a rent agreement and a letter from your landlord may also be requested.
What can I use as proof of income?
You may provide a recent payslip issued within the last month or a job letter issued within the last three months that confirms your payment frequency and compensation details.
What if I am self-employed, retired or receiving public assistance?
Self-employed customers may provide business registration documents and evidence of expected income, cash-flow projections or a completed self-employed trades form. Retired customers or persons receiving benefits may provide a pension or benefit letter/notice, or a Government or NIB cheque stub showing payment details and frequency.
Can I submit photocopies or photos of my documents?
Please provide clear copies in the format requested by the Bank. Where original documents are required for verification, you will be advised accordingly.
How can I submit my documents?
You may submit your documents by email to clientupdates@firstcitizenstt.com or visit any First Citizens branch. The size of attachment must not exceed 10MB.
Do I have to visit my home branch?
No. You may visit any First Citizens branch.
Do I need an appointment?
No appointment is required. Please visit during the branch’s published opening hours.
Can someone submit documents on my behalf?
Customers should generally submit their own documents. A representative may act only where the required legal authority, such as a Power of Attorney, is in place. Customers outside Trinidad and Tobago may be required to submit notarised documents.
Can I update my information over the phone?
No. The required supporting documents must be submitted for review.
When is the deadline to update my information?
Please refer to the deadline stated in the letter or email you received from the Bank.
Will my account be affected if I miss the deadline?
Restrictions may be applied to the account if the requested information is not received by the deadline. This may affect access to selected account services.
Will this affect my loans, credit history or salary deposits?
Updating your customer information does not affect your credit history or existing loans. However, account restrictions for non-compliance may affect access to certain services.
Does every joint account holder need to update their information?
Yes. Each account holder is required to provide updated information when requested.
What should I do if my name has changed?
Provide the legal document supporting the change, such as a Marriage Certificate or Deed Poll, together with updated identification.
What should I do if a joint account holder has died?
Please visit a branch with the Death Certificate so that the Bank can update the account records and advise on the next steps.
I have just opened my account. Do I still need to update my information?
Newly submitted information is generally valid for a period of time. Please contact the Bank or refer to your communication if you are unsure whether an update is required.
Why does the Bank need this information?
The information is used to maintain accurate records, understand your banking relationship and meet regulatory requirements.
Will my documents be kept secure?
Yes. The Bank treats customer information as confidential and applies appropriate safeguards to protect it. Access is limited to authorised personnel who require the information to perform their duties.
Will my information be shared outside the Bank?
Your information is handled in accordance with the Bank’s policies, applicable laws and regulatory obligations.
