First Citizens Supernovas kicks off the East Zone Judging for the 2019 Panorama Prelims

First Citizens Supernovas Steel Orchestra was the first Large Band to be judged in Pantrinbago’s East Zone 2019 Panorama Prelims filling the air in Surrey Village, with their unique and sweet rendition of  Farmer Nappy’s – Hookin Meh.

This is the Band’s fourth year participating in the Large Band category of the National Panorama Championships and First Citizens has supported them every step along the way, as they moved from the small band category to the large in 2016.

The partnership has been mutually rewarding, with First Citizens being able to demonstrate its commitment to culture and the musical arts of Trinidad and Tobago. Meanwhile, Supernovas has been able to continue to strive for greatness and the overall development of the Band. It is the band’s vision to nurture its talented players using the expertise that resides within for its benefit and more importantly, that of its community of Surrey Village.

About Supernovas Steel Orchestra:

The Supernovas Steel Orchestra was formed in 2010 by members from the rural community of Surrey Village, Lopinot under the leadership of Amrit Samaroo following in the footsteps of his father, the late Dr. Jit Samaroo. Today Supernovas has established itself as one of the premier steel orchestras in the pan world attributed to its sound leadership and dedicated members. The orchestra has performed to rave reviews at home and abroad with an average of 20 public performances a year outside of the Carnival season. In the competitive arena, the band has excelled in the National Panorama Small Band Category having placed second in its debut in 2012, third in 2013, first in 2014 and coping second place at the International Panorama and Conference in 2015. They once more impressed on debut in the Large Band Category having placed second in 2016. 2019 sees First Citizens Supernovas working diligently to return to the top tier of pan royalty by injecting new ideas and approaches to their panorama arrangement of Hookin Meh.
