Stalin – The Caribbean Man 2021

“A kaisonian is always a warrior. The more the odds are against him, the better he works.”

— Black Stalin

With 40 years of calypso under his belt, the work of Dr. Leroy Calliste aka Black Stalin, has been referred to as “the voice of the people, the conscience of a nation” –  his songs educate, honour, and celebrate.

Over the years, Stalin has copped five Calypso Monarch Titles – 1979, 1985, 1987, 1991, and 1995.  For his tremendous contribution to culture and the arts, he was awarded the Hummingbird Medal (Silver) in 1987 and in 2008, was the recipient of an Honorary Doctorate from the University of the West Indies.

A man of legendary compassion and generosity, it was a fitting gesture that our DCEO, Professor Sterling Frost and Head – Brand and Marketing Larry Olton, paid a courtesy visit to the Calypso legend and cultural icon, in a show of recognition and appreciation by the First Citizens Group.
