First Citizens Celebrates 33 Years of Putting Customers First

Press Release

This month, First Citizens celebrates its 33rd anniversary, marking more than three decades of resilience, innovation and trusted service to customers, employees and communities across Trinidad and Tobago and the wider Caribbean.

Established in 1993 through the amalgamation of three financial institutions, the Group has grown into one of the region’s strongest and most stable financial services providers, a journey shaped by the trust of its customers and its commitment to creating value and putting customers first.

In May 2026, The Banker (Financial Times) ranked First Citizens the #1 Best Performing Bank in Trinidad and Tobago and #2 in the Caribbean, recognising the Group’s strength across growth, efficiency, asset quality, liquidity and soundness. Most recently, international credit rating agency S&P Global reaffirmed First Citizens Bank Ltd stand-alone credit profile at ‘bbb’, citing strong capitalisation, a diversified business profile, sound liquidity position and disciplined risk management.

Chairman Shankar Bidaisee welcomed the reaffirmation, stating “It affirms the importance we place on corporate governance, regulatory compliance, prudent risk management and sustainable growth.”

The anniversary also coincides with 10 years of the First Citizens UWI Internship Programme, a flagship youth development initiative that has supported national talent development and reflects the Group’s long-standing commitment to community upliftment and financial empowerment.

“Putting customers first is the foundation of how we design our services, empower our teams and build trust – our 33rd Anniversary is ultimately about our customers” said Ms. Sana Ragbir, Group Chief Executive Officer (Ag.). “Their trust and support have shaped our journey, and our commitment is to continue listening, improving and delivering experiences that make banking easier, clearer and more meaningful for every customer”.

From September 7–13, First Citizens hosted customer appreciation activities across its network celebrating the relationships built over the past three decades and highlighting the Group’s continued investment in customer experience, digital transformation and community development.
As First Citizens looks ahead, the Group remains focused on strengthening customer value and building a future-ready financial institution of the Caribbean.
