First Citizens Supports African EmancipationYouth Workshop

Press Release

In celebration of African Emancipation 2025, First Citizens reaffirmed its commitment to youth development and cultural preservation by supporting the 2025 Emancipation Cultural Workshop, hosted by the National Action Cultural Committee (NACC).

The workshop was hosted from July 28 – August 4 and brought together primary and secondary school students from across Trinidad and Tobago for a dynamic and immersive experience rooted in African heritage, creative expression, and identity. First Citizens also added to the overall experience with a financial empowerment session. This year’s programme was aligned to the United Nations’ Second International Decade for People of African Descent (2025–2034), reinforcing its global relevance.

The workshop culminated in a vibrant grand finale, where the participants had the opportunity to showcase their new found skills and celebrated their personal growth. First Citizens also presented special awards aimed at recognising creativity and leadership over the course of the workshop.

This initiative forms part of First Citizens broader corporate social responsibility agenda — supporting education, inclusion, and heritage while contributing to national development. It also reflects the Group’s alignment with key United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): Quality Education (Goal 4), Sustainable Cities and Communities (Goal 11), and Partnerships for the Goals (Goal 17).
