First Citizens Empowers Young Innovators through Sponsorship of NSSEC

Press Release

First Citizens proudly continues its commitment to youth empowerment and innovation through its sponsorship of the National Secondary Schools Entrepreneurship Competition (NSSEC), a dynamic business simulation platform that inspires students to create a business and then learn to adapt and overcome obstacles created by competition and the environment to succeed and how to alter their strategy to be successful

Now in its 9th year, the NSSEC brings together secondary school students from across Trinidad and Tobago to develop entrepreneurial solutions that address real-world challenges. Participants gain hands-on experience in business development, financial literacy, teamwork, and critical thinking — skills essential for success in today’s evolving economy.

Speaking on the sponsorship, Sana Ragbir, Group Deputy CEO – Business Generation at First Citizens, said: “These days, it can seem like there’s little that AI can’t do!…But there’s something of interest to you that AI can’t quite do – that’s starting a business!  Business partner – yes! Business Owner – no! That’s the relevance and currency by which programmes such as NSSEC are backed.”

“As a sponsor for the past nine years, First Citizens has been honoured to help create this valuable opportunity for our youth.  Year after year, participants have proven that they are talented, dedicated, and creative, not only to succeed at the programme but to emerge from the experience with sustainable business ideas.  In fact, many have gone on to turn those ideas into reality and true businesses, and that’s something of which we are always proud.”

Throughout the competition, students work in their teams and are encouraged to maximise all that the programme offers. The program continues to be a catalyst for shaping young leaders who are prepared to drive positive change in their communities.

As part of its broader corporate social responsibility framework, First Citizens remains dedicated to supporting programmes that promote education, innovation, and sustainable community development.
