The Mastercard SecureCode service strengthens the security of your First Citizens online shopping experience by capturing key data elements during your online shopping. This information is then utilized to analyse and trend customer behaviour to authenticate your online purchase.

What is the benefit of the Mastercard SecureCode service to me?
The Mastercard SecureCode service provides enhanced security and confidence for your online purchases. Even if your card is lost or stolen, purchases cannot be done at online Mastercard SecureCode merchants once your SecureCode is unknown to the person in possession of your card.

Is there any direct impact of the Mastercard SecureCode service on me as a First Citizens Mastercard credit card and prepaid cardholder?
First Citizens Mastercard cardholders would be automatically enrolled for the service when you complete an online transaction, therefore you will no longer be prompted to register for this service before completing a purchases at online merchants who subscribe for the Mastercard Secure Code service from their bank.

What happens when (i) my First Citizens credit card expires, or (ii) my credit card limit changes or (iii) I receive a new card after my last card was either lost, stolen or compromised?

What is the cost for the Mastercard SecureCode service from First Citizens?
This service is free to all First Citizens Mastercard credit card and prepaid card customers.

Enrolling for Mastercard SecureCode/ Security and Privacy
Why do I need to register for the Mastercard SecureCode service?
All cardholders are automatically enrolled for the service upon completion of an online transaction. Enrollment into this service strengthens the security of your online transactions at 3D Secure Merchants.
Enrollment is completed per card.

What and how many cards would be enrolled for the Mastercard Secure Code service?
All of your First Citizens Mastercard credit cards and Prepaid cards would be enrolled for this service. There is no limit.

How does Mastercard Secure Code protect me?
No enrollment, No Confirmation, No Purchase.
You enjoy enhanced security and confidence for your online purchases.
Even if your card is lost or stolen, once enrolled for Mastercard Secure Code, purchases which are not in line with customer behaviours at online Mastercard Secure Code merchants would be declined.

Shopping with Mastercard Secure Code
Where can Mastercard Secure Code service be of benefit to me?
The Mastercard Secure Code service applies only to online merchants and therefore improves the security of your online shopping experience.

Do all online merchants use Mastercard Secure Code?
No. Only participating Mastercard Secure Code merchants will display (i) the Mastercard Secure Code logo.
NB. An online merchant can offer the Mastercard Secure Code service only if his/her bank offers the service to their merchants.
If the merchant does not use the Mastercard Secure Code service, then the Mastercard Secure Code logo will not be displayed.

Can I purchase online at merchants who do not participate in the Mastercard Secure Code service?
Yes, you can. If the online merchant does not use the Mastercard Secure service, then the purchase order will be authorized by the bank once you click the “Place Order” button.There will be no display of the Mastercard Secure Code logo on the payment page.

Can I start shopping with my existing First Citizens Credit Card and Prepaid Card?
Yes. You can shop immediately as all existing cardholders are automatically enrolled for this service upon completion of an online transaction, no waiting period is necessary. If you just received a new credit card, the same applies.


What should I do if I am shopping online but a Transaction Denied window appears?
